New trial tracks long-term effects of burn pit exposure among veterans

BodiMetrics is proud that the circul ring is one of the devices that  Dr Anthony Szema uses in monitoring our Burn Pit Victims We wish Dr Szema good luck on his recently submitted application to monitor the victims of the train crash in Palestine Ohio
Anthony Szema, MD, and colleagues have proposed a comprehensive advocacy, education, diagnosis and clinical research program to monitor residents of East Palestine, Ohio who were exposed to the train derailment of 1.1 million pounds of vinyl chloride and sundry chemicals which were burned and leached into the soil and water.

Szema first began his team’s advocacy in a New York Post article February 2023 and followed it with discussion for the American Thoracic Society Section on Terrorism and Inhalation Disasters. He now plans a multidisciplinary, multi-center webinar with Columbia University and the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell, Brookhaven National Laboratory’s National Synchrotron Light Source II, and Stony Brook University with the University of Gottingen, on September 11, 2001. This program will compare the East Palestine, Ohio train derailment to the world trade center disaster, military burn pits in Iraq and Afghanistan, and California wildfires.

With Eric Garalnick, MD, Harvard Medical School, He co authored a JAMA article showing comparisons among military burn pits, CA wildfires and 9/11. His team sees similarities with the Ohio train derailment

The new NIH proposal entails remote biometric monitoring among those exposed, sophisticated measures of airway physiology, soil and water analyses for burned metals and chemical and fuels, standardized surveys with a mixed methods qualitative and quantitative approach, and drone mapping of soil radon and radiation, with remediation recommendations such as effective basement fans.
